Lodge your BAS

If you are a new business, and you haven’t lodged your first BAS you may be wondering if you are able to lodge your BAS online. Short answer, yes.

In order to lodge your BAS online, you can:

  • Engage a tax or BAS agent and have them lodge on your behalf. You will gain an extension for the lodgement and payment dates using this option.
  • Use online services for individuals and sole traders – you will need a myGov account linked to the ATO;
  • Register for the Business Portal and lodge inside the portal;
  • Lodge directly from your Standard Business Reporting (SBR) enabled software.

How will I receive my activity statement

The method you use to lodge your BAS will determine how your activity statement will be delivered in future. For example, if you lodge electronically through online services for individuals, your next statement will be delivered to you through online services for individuals.

When using the Tax Offices online services for individuals, you can view your lodgment regardless of the lodgment method.

What if I am using a tax or BAS agent?

If you have a Tax or BAS agent they can lodge or vary on your behalf through their preferred electronic channel. They can also provide payment information and view your online account.

Tax and BAS agents can also view your activity statements that have been sent to your myGov Inbox.

What if I have nothing to report?

If you have nothing to report, you can lodge a Nil BAS using one of the above methods or over the phone by calling the Tax Office.

What do we recommend?

We recommend peace of mind. Many businesses, unfortunately, find themselves stuck in a mess trying to sort out errors on their business activity statements. Working with us ensures that your BAS is lodged correctly, meaning you can run your business without worrying about the ATO giving you a call.
