What happens if you connect the ATO to your myGov?
The ATO can now be linked to your myGov account to allow all previously posted correspondence to be sent directly to your myGov account inbox. This will improve security and make your record keeping easier to manage by bringing all your taxation and superannuation affairs to the same place.
What type of ATO correspondence will I receive?
Once you’ve connected the Australian Taxation Office to your myGov account, you can expect to receive:
- notices, such as notices of assessment
- statements of account
- confirmation and reminder notices
- activity statements or instalment notices
All digital communication from the Australian Taxation Office will now be sent to your myGov Inbox, rather than your email account – this is due to legal and privacy requirements.
What if I don’t want to connect the ATO to myGov?
If you haven’t already connected, all ATO correspondence will be sent to you or your tax or BAS agent via post.
How does Fitzpatrick Group see ATO correspondence if I have connected?
Fitzpatrick Group will be able to access copies of digital letters, SMS and emails that have been sent to your myGov inbox. We will not have access to your personal Inbox rather, we will see copies via our own Tax Agent and BAS Agent portals.
It is important to note
We will only be able to see copies of digital correspondence if we view your account correspondence through our Tax Agent and BAS Agent portal – we will no longer receive paper copies of correspondence. So it is important that you check your my.gov settings and ensure you are receiving adequate alerts when documents are delivered to your myGov account.
